Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, born on 9th June 1985, is an esteemed Indian actress primarily known for her work in Hindi films. She is the daughter of renowned actor Anil Kapoor and started her career as an assistant director for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2005 film “Black”. Kapoor made her acting debut with Bhansali’s romantic drama “Saawariya” in 2007, which, despite being a box office flop, marked the beginning of her journey in the industry. She tasted her first commercial success with the romantic comedy “I Hate Luv Storys” in 2010, but a series of commercial failures and repetitive roles followed, earning her negative reviews.
However, the tide turned for Kapoor with the 2013 hit “Raanjhanaa”, earning her critical praise and numerous Best Actress nominations. She found significant commercial success with supporting roles in biopics “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” (2013) and “Sanju” (2018), and a leading role in the romance “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” (2015), the latter two being among the highest-grossing Bollywood films. She is also a prominent supporter of breast cancer awareness and LGBT rights. Known for her outspoken personality, Kapoor is often cited as one of India’s most fashionable celebrities. Kapoor is married to businessman Anand Ahuja, and they have a son together.
