Jennifer Love Hewitt’s delicate new tattoo is a charming homage to “9-1-1”

Jennifer Love Hewitt is known for favoring small linework tattoos that pack a punch. These range from tributes to nature, like butterflies or leaves, to spiritual symbols such as the evil eye for protection, and even meaningful phrases like “the universe always provides,” which she got last fall. However, to our knowledge, she’s never before chosen to honor any of her movies or TV shows with a tattoo—until now.

“I teased earlier that I was up to something special today, and it’s time,” Hewitt shared in a selfie video posted to her Instagram Stories on Monday, April 16. “Even though I’ve been part of many TV shows, with season eight of ‘9-1-1’ coming up next after you finish watching season seven, it’ll mark the longest-running show I’ve been on in 35 years. So I’m celebrating by getting a little ‘9-1-1’ tattoo with my favorite tattoo artist, Victoria,” she continued, referring to Victoria Do, renowned for her intricate and delicate designs.

However, Hewitt didn’t embark on this tattoo journey alone. “I asked the cast members if they wanted to get dispatcher tattoos with me. I asked if they wanted a little ‘9-1-1’ tattoo,” she revealed. “Unfortunately, everyone declined except for one person. And you might be surprised who it is,” she teased, before unveiling her “tattoo bestie” as Debra Christofferson, who portrays her character Maddie’s supervisor, Sue.

Both Christofferson and Hewitt opted for the same design: a simple rotary phone with “9-1-1” inscribed on the base. The only difference was the placement—Christofferson chose her tattoo for her very first one, behind her shoulder, while Hewitt chose her wrist.

While many actors often have to conceal their tattoos for their on-camera roles, Hewitt hinted that she might allow Maddie to showcase this tattoo. She posted a photo of the stencil with the caption, “Look and see if you can spot my dispatcher tattoo in upcoming episodes!” Always fun to discover these Easter eggs!
